How to Book a Holiday for a Family of 5 (Without the Stress)
Updated: Mar 4
Booking a holiday should be exciting — but if you’re a family of five or more, it can quickly become overwhelming.
Many travel websites are designed around the “standard” family of four. The moment you add that fifth person, room options disappear, prices jump unexpectedly, and suddenly you're searching for complicated workarounds.
As a mum of three (aged 4, 8 and 15), I completely understand this frustration. I’ve experienced the “maximum 4 per room” message more times than I can count — which is exactly why I now specialise in helping larger families travel with ease.

Here are my top tips when booking as a family of five or more:
1️⃣ Look Beyond Standard Family Rooms
Many resorts offer family suites, interconnecting rooms, or apartment-style accommodation — but these don’t always show up in basic online searches. A travel specialist can often access room types not clearly displayed online.
2️⃣ Consider Apartment or Villa Options
Sometimes two-bedroom apartments or villas offer better space and value than trying to squeeze into one hotel room.
3️⃣ Check Flight Seating Early
Securing seats together can become harder closer to departure. Booking strategically helps ensure your family stays together.
4️⃣ Be Clear on Total Budget
Adding a fifth traveller increases costs — but there are still excellent mid-range options available if you know where to look.
5️⃣ Don’t Spend Hours Searching
This is where working with a specialist makes a difference. I compare trusted UK tour operators, ensure room configurations work properly, and remove the stress from the process entirely.
